The Orchestra
The Orchestra program at Broughton High School has been a part of the school for over thirty years. The Orchestras are comprised of students in 9th through 12th grade who are interested in studying, practicing and performing string orchestra instruments. This includes Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass.
Students choosing to participate in orchestra will have the chance to travel to different performance destinations, highlight the diverse musical cultures in our world today and work alongside classmates to perfect a life long skill, hobby, or possibly, a career in music.
The Conductor
Hi, my name is Derrick Foskey. I graduated from the University of NC Greensboro where I studied instrumental music education (2011). After spending a year in Raleigh teaching at four elementary schools I taught orchestra and AP music theory for three years at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, NC. *If you've never heard of Southern Pines it's Pinehurst's next door neighbor.* While in Southern Pines I performed with the Moore County Philharmonia as a cellist and violist, although, my primary instrument of study in college was violin. I enjoy what I do immensley. I am very grateful to be at Broughton this year and look forward to making some great music with some great students!
